Leaving home to pursue a dream is a life changing experience and itâs no wonder we tend to get caught up in our journeys abroad. Rebecca Goes Rendezvous tells us how she dealt with the ups and downs of returning home to LA after four years in France.
The Joy and Struggles of Repatriation: An Americanâs Perspective
by Rebecca â Rebecca Goes Rendezvous
Itâs been nearly a year since I left France to return to the United States, after four years of living and working abroad. Itâs only been a year, but itâs been one of major ups and downs that I hadnât experienced until I came home. Iâd be lying if I didnât say that Iâd been reluctant to return, even dreading it. Never did I imagine I would repatriate, especially so soonâ it goes to show how four years can fly by in oneâs lifetime.

I loved your post and your honesty and how were you willing to share your journey with us. We often talk about what it would be like to return back home to Latvia for good, but after 18 years of living in Ireland, I can’t even imagine and I know in my heart that I would struggle grately. Even going home for a two week holiday to see family and friends isn’t without its challenges. Reverse culture shock is one of the weirdest things ever! Thanks so much for sharing and have a good day. Aiva đ

Some people are meant to be expats, others are meant to repatriate. No sense of shame in any of that, as long as you’re happy living wherever you are! Thanks for your comment, Aiva.
