Hello!
A couple of weeks ago, Tricia from Travels Through My Lens posted this Photo article about stairs throughout her travels. I’ve enjoyed following her content as an expat in France (and in Normandy, where I used to live!), and I was inspired to show some of my favorite staircases I’ve photographed on my trips around the world. Here are my Top 10– enjoy! π
Paris, France (March 2017)
Rue Foyatier on a gloomy day in Montmartre (222 steps)
Chefchaouen, Morocco (May 2017)

Kyoto, Japan (June 2016)

Istanbul, Turkey (June 2019)
Los Angeles, California (July 2022)
Sweating at the Culver City Stairs (282 steps)
Jiufen, Taiwan (December 2014)
Lots of stairs, lots of people!
Salamanca, Spain (June 2019)
Incredible details under the Soto Staircase at the Convento de San Esteban
Sacred Valley of the Incas, Peru (July 2018)
Technically, these are irrigation terraces, but large steps nevertheless!
Bucharest, Romania (February 2019)
Uniquely-textured marble staircase inside the Romanian Athenaeum
Huangshan, China (July 2011)
Climbing up (and up) to the summit!
What have been your favorite staircases you’ve encountered on your travels? Let me know! Have a wonderful day, folks. π

What a nice collection of photos, especially the one of the blue stairs! Whenever Iβm in Santa Barbara, I enjoy seeing the beautiful staircases with Spanish tiles.

A fine selection of global stairways, Rebecca. You have also reminded me that I’d love to go back to Morocco and maybe spend a month living in Chefchaouen. Drink in all of that lovely blueness. I really should do a few of these challenges myself sometime, we tackled an incredible staircase just the other day in Batumi Botanical Garden. Good piece.

Thanks, Leighton! Chefchaouen is a lovely little city, and you could definitely spend a couple of weeks wandering all of the winding, blue streets in the medina. Never been to the Batumi Botanical Garden, but that sounds enjoyable (and I imagine beautiful)!

Definitely! I do my best to get my steps in every day while climbing up and down the staircase at work. A convenient workout, for sure!

This is a great collection! Chefchaoen will be my next post (last in a Moroccan series). Many of these stairs look familiar, like Montmartre and Kyoto, but I probably haven’t seen those exact ones.

Can’t wait to read about Chefchaouen! Those stairs in Montmartre and Kyoto are pretty famous, so I’m sure you’ve at least chanced upon them!

I didn’t take many notes on that visit, so I’ll be recreating it from memory, but plenty of photos. But it’s all about the blue maze of streets, as you know.

Exactly! What better way to see the city than with stairs? Free to climb, and a free workout!
