Couple of months ago, I came across a post from Anita of 100 Country Trek about some of her favorite bridges from around the world. While she only posted three photos from three countries, her post has inspired me to write a post about my personal favorite bridges across the globe. I thank her for the inspiration, in that respect!
Bridges are one of my favorite sites to check out whenever (and wherever) I travel. Along with churches and parks, bridges are accessible landmarks that evoke so much history, architecture, and culture in its respective country– all the while being a utilitarian form of transport from one side of the bank to the other. It is the action of crossing a bridge that I find symbolic of a “crossing” of cultures, of me as a tourist trying to make sense of a country’s customs and “bridging” them with my own. Perhaps I’m getting too metaphorical, but in any case– bridges are cool. Period.
Here are some of the most-beautiful bridges I’ve come across during my travels. Enjoy!
10 Favorite Bridges from Around the World
1. Pont Alexandre III (Paris, France)
July 2019.
2. Togetsukyo Bridge (Kyoto, Japan)

3. Golden Gate Bridge (San Francisco, California)
4. Chain Bridge (Budapest, Hungary)

5. Bridge within a Bridge (Wuzhen, China)
6. Tower Bridge (London, England)

7. Chapel Bridge (Lucerne, Switzerland)

8. Stari Most (Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina)
9. Sanxiantai Dragon Bridge (Taitung, Taiwan)

10. Charles Bridge (Prague, Czech Republic)
What are YOUR favorite bridges in the world? Let me know!

Beautiful bridges! I’d only seen two up close and in person. The bridge in Ronda, Spain is amazing too. So much wonderful architecture. Thanks!

I love your list of your favorite bridges! Beautiful photos, too. One of my favorites is the Capilano Suspension Bridge in Vancouver, Canada. Walking across it allowed me to face my fear of heights! I also like covered bridges.

I don’t recall going to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, but I am sure that it’s an awe-inspiring work of art! Sounds like I’ll have to return to Vancouver someday for that. π

It’s great. You can stand on it as it swings open for the boats to pass. Very different.

Some great choices there and itβs hard to pick only 10! I agree with Alexis about the Dragon Bridge, but what about Sydney Bridge? I also love those covered bridges you get in US. What about the French suspension bridge in Milau or the one in Avignon? Sorry! Getting carried away here.

I have not seen the Sydney Bridge nor the one in Milau, but I do agree with you that the pont d’Avignon is a unique one. Thanks for sharing your favorites!

A great idea for an article and some nice choices indeed. I think I would also find a place for Charles Bridge and Chain Bridge (the latter purely for nostalgic reasons). Sanxiantai Dragon Bridge looks amazing, yet another reason to go to Taiwan.

Charles Bridge and Chain Bridge evoke some of my fondest memories while visiting that part of Europe. I hope you can visit Taiwan someday; it’s such a beautiful country with gorgeous nature and incredible food!

Great post idea! I have always loved cities that have bridges (and water), somehow it makes it so romantic! π For that, I love St Petersburg!

Bridges certainly have that sentimental charm to them. I’ve been to Saint Petersburg, but I didn’t pay much attention to the bridges there; I’ll have to return to keep my eyes out for them!

A top tip nerd bridge is London Bridge at Lake Havasu in USA. Torn down brick by brick in London and built across an artificial lake in the desert. A strange thing do drive across.

I’ve honestly never heard of that bridge! But it’s really fascinating the literal exchange of cultures from one country to the other, brick by brick! I’ll need to check out London Bridge at Lake Havasu someday!

I love bridges. One thing I always do no matter where I travel is checking if there is a bridge in the city and crossing it. Couple of the bridges that I have visited are already on your list. I would add Sydney Harbour Bridge π

Absolutely! Crossing bridges is the way to go when visiting a country, to see their architectural and engineering feats. I’ve been recommended Sydney Harbor Bridge many times already, so I’ll definitely need to visit when I head to Australia someday!
