Hey, there!

It’s that time of year again where I publish my annual “Life Update” post. Not surprisingly, a lot has happened since I last updated you on my life. Last time I left off (in December), I was still figuring things out mentally, with work and personal stress, that were causing me to feel anxious and depressed. I will say that things have gotten a lot better this year, and I’m super grateful for that.

I started this year by getting on anti-depressants as a way to help with my depression, as it’s been work-induced. I didn’t think I would, let alone wanted, to take it, but given that I had a rough time mentally last year (even with therapy), I decided to give it a try and see if it would help. And I will say that it’s made a notable change: not to say that it’s been life-changing, but I do feel less anxious and a lot calmer. My sleep has improved, and I’m able to regulate my emotions better. I think it was a good choice to get on anti-depressants, and while I’m unsure if I’ll continue this for the long-term, so far it’s been helpful to my everyday life.

In February, I sprained my ankle while indoor climbing– basically, I fell from the wall and got a Grade 2 ankle sprain. I ended up having to take time off from climbing, and I had to do some physical therapy to recover. I was bummed that I couldn’t climb, as I was getting to a good level. Thankfully, I was able to return after two months, and honestly, I didn’t lose too much from the break. I passed my one-year climbing anniversary in July, and I’m continuing to enjoy the sport!

Of course, this blog wouldn’t be complete without mentioning any trips I’ve taken this year. In fact, I did a good amount of travel, as much as last year: I did many domestic trips to Texas, Washington, and D.C. with my partner, as we attended a ton of weddings in the spring. I also just came back from Chicago over the long Labor Day weekend, and I have a couple more domestic trips to take for the remainder of this year. It’s been fun exploring more of my home country and all the US states– perhaps I’ll try to visit all 50 in my lifetime!

I also went to Denmark in June with my partner; it was our first international trip together, and it was a wonderful time. We spent a few days in Copenhagen, which was absolutely gorgeous; it was also surprisingly very warm, as much of Europe was going through a heat wave then. My partner and I also went to the Faroe Islands and spent a few days hiking and touring around– I’d been meaning to visit the Faroe Islands for a long time, and it was a bucket list dream come true. ❀

…and also while we were in Denmark: WE GOT ENGAGED!!! My partner and I proposed to each other in Copenhagen, and we couldn’t be any happier. Now we’re fiancΓ©e and fiancΓ©e, which is both surreal yet real. We have since secured a wedding date, as well as had our engagement party last month with friends, family, and loved ones. While there’s still a lot to plan, we’re just enjoying the fiancΓ©e life. I’ll definitely update you more about it soon…

Finally: WE HAVE CATS!!! My fiancΓ©e and I adopted two kittens in August, and they are the most-adorable little guys ever. I didn’t own cats growing up, so it has been a big learning curve for me so far– fortunately, my fiancΓ©e has experience raising cats, so I’ve been learning a lot from her. It’s a good amount of work, but very rewarding to see our kittens happy and loved. ❀

Overall, things have been a lot better for me this year. Again, I think the anti-depressants have helped a lot to keep me grounded, less anxious, and more fulfilled with what I have in life. And I am content with my life: I have my now-fiancΓ©e by my side, and our relationship is now stronger than ever. I also have my family and friends to support me through thick and thin, especially with big things that will happen in the next year or so. Things have been really, really good, and I’m really excited to see what’s in store. Bring it on!

Thanks for reading and supporting this blog, and I have plenty more adventures to share with you soon. Until then πŸ™‚

— Rebecca

  1. Congratulations for many things; managing depression (that’s a tough one that I can relate to), getting engaged and becoming cat parents! You’ve probably learned by now that you don’t own your pets; rather they are your loyal and loving companions, and part of your family. I wish you the best of luck and happiness moving forward!

  2. Awww, no photos of the kitties? Perhaps in the next life update post. I think I already said it on instagram, but congratulations!!! Very exciting!!! I’m glad to hear that outside of cats and wedding planning, life has been better this year. Hopefully that continues πŸ™‚

  3. Congratulations, Rebecca. A wedding in the future and kitties in the present. Your situation sounds a lot like mine – I had no experience with cats but the husband did. We’ve had our two for 3.5 years now and we absolutely adore them. I’m with Diana, though – I need to see photos!!

    1. Lovely! Cats are adorable, and it’s good to hear that you have a similar experience. It’s been a lot of work, but a lot of fun with the kittens so far– they’re absolute sweethearts! Perhaps I’ll share photos of them later down the line. Thanks for reading!

  4. WONDERFUL NEWS…. CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AND YOUR FIANCΓ‰πŸ₯‚β€οΈπŸ’

I love the Faroe Islands pic!

How can you say you got cats when there are no pics?!? πŸ±πŸˆπŸˆβ€β¬›

Congrats on taking antiD meds. I know, first hand, how hard it is to accept that meds might work… then the surprise of, oh.. wow, I really DO have a chemical imbalance!! There are lots of varieties with lots of different effects and side effects. I share that info only because no one told me and I spent months getting worse before learning there were other options. For me, 6 mos to a year is sufficient, then the side effects are greater than my need and I go off them for 3-5 yrs. GOOD LUCK!!

Sooo… if you’re already planning, what’s you timeframe for the wedding?!?

    1. Thank you!! My partner is reticent about sharing photos of our cats online, so I’m respecting her request; perhaps I’ll share them later down the line, but I can assure you the kittens are truly adorable! ❀ The anti-depressants have been helping me a lot this year, and I'm glad for that. The wedding is set for next summer, so we have lots to plan!

  5. So much good news! I love that photo of the Faroe Islands. I read that the weather in this place is often unpredictable and changes really fast. It’s nice that you had sunny days there. And congratulations again for the engagement!

    1. Thank you, Bama! The Faroe Islands were an absolute dream ❀ We got lucky with the weather during our short stay there, as I've also heard that it can turn on a dime. My fiancΓ©e and I are really happy with our engagement, and while there's so much to plan for the wedding, we're enjoying the process! More to come soon…

    1. Thanks, Han! 2025 has been a better year so far. There’s a lot we have to plan for the wedding, but we’re enjoying the process all the way! Getting kittens was a big move, but I love them, and they’re absolutely adorable (even if they can be rascals at times). So far, so good!

  7. Hooray for feeling happier all-round Rebecca, that’s wonderful to hear. You really do appreciate the good times all the more having worked hard to battle through tough times. Once again, congrats on the engagement and indeed on your furry little kids. No photo in the post? Cats are definitely on the horizon for us one day, once we feel our new home is ready for it. As for The Faroes, that is something we would absolutely love to do in the future, but let’s see, we are now in a stabilising, homebuilding phase. Here’s to another year of travel, intimacy and improved mental and physical health!

    1. Thank you, Leighton! Lots of big milestones so far this year. I love my cats, but my partner and I want to keep them private and for ourselves. They’re a lot of work, but a lot of joy to have! The Faroe Islands were a dream, and I hope you get to head there some day! Wishing you and Sladja a great rest of the year filled with adventures and fun!

  8. Oooh I’m back from a little blogging break and this is the perfect post to come back too! Congratulations on your engagement! I’m so happy for you two! Your trip to Copenhagen and the Faroe Islands sounds awesome – both are quite high on my list!
I’m glad to read that you are feeling a lot better than end of last year and that your medication is helping.
And also congrats for the kittens! Did you put up a photo somewhere? When I moved in with my boyfriend we also got a cat and I wasn’t used to it at all at first (I love cats but never had them as pets) – there’s a learning curve but it is so nice in the end!

    Wishing you all the best!!

    1. Thanks, Juliette! Yes, many milestones happened so far this year, and I couldn’t be any happier! Lots of travel and life with my partner have been really good. I posted photos of my kittens on Instagram, but not on this blog; I’m trying to keep some things private here, so maybe I’ll post them later or not. It’s been a lot of work, but also a lot of joy! Wishing you a great rest of the year πŸ™‚

  9. 2025 sounds like it has been a busy yet fulfilling year for you. I’m sorry to hear the fall put you out of action for a bit at the climbing wall (though glad to read you didn’t feel as though it set you back too much when you were able to return). Enjoy every moment of being cat parents – they truly are the best companions. And many congratulations again to you both on your engagement!

I know it’ll be one of the best days of your lives. I’m also happy to hear you’re feeling better mentally. Life is tough but you’re tougher 🫢🏾 cheersss
