(inspired by Malibu in Los Angeles– May 2021)

Malibu Mornings

Waves lap over my toes
savoring that last bite
of sunrise by the sea:

I see how the Pacific glides
under gulls returning to shore
at the start of the day,

After sleeping, dreaming about
that glorious hour
waking up to mornings in Malibu

To sunny eggs and toast
and you holding a coffee
with a hand that held me gently

the night before.
