Greetings!

As it has been for the past two years, it’s around this time of year in which I ask you to ask me questions! I’ve been doing this little Q&A during the month of July, as it’s around this time (specifically, July 30th) that it’s my blog anniversary! I’ll be coming up on 7 years this year, which is hard to believe as I feel as if I just started my blog yesterday.

Whether it’s about me, my blog, or anything travel-related, I’m open to any questions so long as they’re appropriate. Hit me with your questions in the Comments section, and I’ll be gathering them into one Q&A blog post to be published on July 30th at UTC-7 PDT. I look forward to your questions!

Also, a little update:

After going back and forth on this for several years, I’m finally making the big leap and getting my own blog domain! Not to say that I’ll be going fully independent (I’ll still be using WordPress), but I am ready to pay it forward (literally) by purchasing my own website domain in order to have more control over my blog. The only difference is that I am getting rid of the “wordpress” portion of my URL.

I will officially make the switch on July 26th, and given that this will be a subtle, but significant change, I also hope not to lose all of you, my followers, along the way. I will go Live on July 26th with a test post, so once it’s published, I would like for you to let me know if you see it by commenting or Liking it! I will also be making sure that, in the worst case that there are some of you who don’t get transferred over, to manually troubleshoot everything. I can also anticipate many of my previous blog post links to be broken, which will take months to manually repair, but hey, it is what it is…

Any case, I hope you will continue to follow me once the changes are made later this month. And of course, please do ask me questions for the Q&A! Thanks as always for your support, and have a wonderful summer! 🙂

  1. Congratulations on your blog anniversary and on getting your own domain! It’s a big step as I well remember. Is there a place (county, city, etc) that you absolutely wouldn’t want to visit and if so, why?

  2. Congratulations, Rebecca, on 7 years blogging! Happy for you that you’re purchasing your own domain as well! My questions are: who is your favorite musician? Do you still use your French from time to time? (Movies, music…) So great to know you as a blogging friend these past five years! R

  3. Q&A is a smart idea. I’m delighted to see you making progress in the world of blogging, and I’ll be keeping a close eye on the success of your migration.
My question is, do you have a strategy in place to ensure the continuity of the blog in the event of any unforeseen hiccup? If so, what is it and for how long? OK, that’s three questions.

      1. I’m ok with the “wordpress” part. I’d love to have the “.com” one, but there’s a high-end travel planning business out of England that owns that one and since COVID didn’t devastate their company, I figure I’ll never have access to it.

By the way, by having your own domain, does that mean that you have to do all the things that WP once did for you, like back up your own site and stuff?

      2. I’m still keeping WordPress to blog, but simply just getting my own domain (i.e. removing the “wordpress” part). I don’t plan to self-host, so I believe WP will still back up my site. Please let me know if you don’t see anything from me later this month, if the back-up doesn’t happen!

  4. Congratulations on 7 years of blogging and on deciding to get your own blog domain. That’s what I did at the very beginning when I set up my travel blog with WordPress because I had a desire to clearly communicate my identity and purpose in a way readers were likely to remember.
And while a domain name isn’t strictly necessary in order to create a presence on the web, I find that having your own domain name gives you control over your online identity and the content you post. I am definitely gonna keep following you and your wonderful adventures. Cheers, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  5. Congratulations on your upcoming 7th anniversary! Hopefully all goes well when you have your own domain. What are some of your big travel ticket places/experiences that you still want to do one day? What are the top 5 places that you want to go back to and why?

  6. Congratulations on your blog anniversary this month and on your domain. I didn’t have any issues when I switched, so I hope the same goes for you. If you could only visit one country in Europe, which one would it be, and how long would you stay?

  7. Congratulations on your blog’s anniversary.
It is a good thing you are getting your own domain. I did the same some 3 years ago and my blog is better for it.
I assure you there is nothing to be afraid of about the change. Since you are remaining with WordPress. Com, your blog experience will not be so different from what you already have not. Except that having your domain name makes it look more professional.
The little challenges you may have will come if you decide to go self hosting. But even then, those challenges are not insurmountable.
To respond to your request, I will like to ask why you blog. Also, have you been criticised before for starting a blog? If yes, how did you handle it.?

  8. Hey Rebecca! Awesome, I’m just realizing we started blogging in the same year although my anniversary is much later (December). Can’t think of any questions now but I’ll come back if any cross my mind. Also, good news re the article URLs. WordPress automatically reroutes them from the ‘.wordpress.com’ to the ‘.com’ version of your site. The only thing that gets affected is your search engine view.

    1. That’s good to know! However, do you know if the search engine view can cause a loss in engagement, readership, Likes for a while? That’s my biggest fear!

  9. 7 years!congrats! I hope that you’ll blog for at least seven more years! I don’t think that you will have any problems, I switched to my domain a couple of years ago and it was okay. It’s just a change in url. And my question is:when are going to visit Croatia again?
