Hotel Review: Los Cauquenes Resort & Spa, Ushuaia
The Los Cauquenes Resort & Spa is a 5-star hotel located way outside of Ushuaia city center, about 5 miles/7.5 kilometers. However, what makes up for its long distance away from the center is its location right by the Beagle Channel, with its stunning views of the water, forest, and mountains– all in one! The hotel itself is also a vision, with it made almost entirely of glass to let in natural light and to maximize the views of all the nature surrounding it. Goes to show that the “End of the World” in Ushuaia is worth it!
I stayed at the Los Cauquenes for two nights while visiting Ushuaia. If I’d thought that the excessive luxury I’d experienced at my hotel in Buenos Aires had been much, then I was even more blown away at how beautiful Ushuaia’s was! While it’s not decked out in gold and marble as it had been in Buenos Aires’s, Ushuaia’s Los Cauquenes stuns patrons with its minimalist, glass architecture, as well as that polished, wooden interior that evokes a cozy cabin weekend away.
Let’s get to the review:
Room: 5/5
I stayed in a single Superior Beagle View Room, breakfast included. Holy moly did it rock my world! Upon entering, you’re hit with views of the Beagle Channel, the mountains of Chile in the distance (yes, you can see Chile from Argentina!), and bits of the Tierra del Fuego National Park. The room itself is spacious and it comes with all of your amenities, along with a power outlet that can hold up to three different plugs (Argentina, EU, US)– that was impressive!
My room (look at those views!)
Location: 3.5/5
As mentioned, Los Cauqenes is far from the city center, and it’s located inside a gated community of other hotels. In order to get to and from the city center, you’d need to take the hotel’s shuttle, which runs a limited service (i.e. once every hour to 90 minutes, and it doesn’t run at midday). So you’re basically stuck in the hotel.
On the other hand, if you’re referring to a location near nature, then Los Cauquenes is the perfect, secluded spot! It’s in a very calm, very safe area, all the while a breath of fresh air from the hustle and bustle of the city center. There’s a pro and con to it all!
Service: 4/5
Staff were polite and friendly, but aside from the excellent restaurant waitstaff who made great food recommendations and the complementary hot chocolate (with cherry brandy) drink upon welcome, they didn’t necessarily go above and beyond in terms of helping me get situated. Overall, great service, but not exceptional service.
Food: 5/5
I ate at their restaurant for both nights, and it was top quality– wow! Breakfast was a solid spread of sweet and savory, including the staple alfajores which were tasty. But dinner was the star of the show: the first night was black hake, which was the most tender, buttery fish I’ve ever had– I also loved the unique spread of dinner rolls, including pumpkin rolls and Malbec-infused bread, the latter my favorite. You also look out to the views of the Beagle Channel as you eat, and it was heaven on Earth. ❤
Value for money: 5/5
Granted, Los Cauquenes does not come cheap: a quick Internet search shows for a single room, it averages about $250 to $390 USD per night (my Beagle Channel view room costs about $380 USD/night). However, for its location by the water with those stunning views, it’s worth it. Not only that, but also the restaurant’s food and service are solid, and honestly, I could imagine myself returning to Ushuaia just to stay at Los Cauquenes!
Overall: 4.5/5
Thanks for reading my hotel review; more are coming soon! 🙂

Views, views, views! Really stunning, as you say. I love the design of that lobby, not sure I’ve ever seen anything quite like that before. The food sounds fantastic too, overall it looks like whatever inconvenience the location has is more than compensated by that wonderful, sweeping panoramic. It looks like an amazing writing spot, though at those prices I’m not sure I could afford a long term residency, ha. The food looks and sounds spot on.

Absolutely! The architects really knew how to maximize natural lighting for the hotel, in order for all of those views! I actually wrote a bit while staying there, and it was also the perfect spot to relax with a book and glass of Argentinian wine. I’d go back to Ushuaia just to stay at Los Cauquenes again!

The hotel looks amazing Rebecca and the views from your room absolutely stunning which surely makes up for its remote location. Malbec infused bread sounds right up,my street as does your fish main. Did you have a hire car with you on your travels or make use of the hotel’s shuttle service? Overall – a superb stay!

Yes, that Malbec-infused bread was heavenly; I even went for seconds! The black hake was a local specialty and one of the best fish I’ve ever had. I used the hotel’s shuttle service, which was convenient for getting me to and from the city center!

Looks like heaven on earth! As Tina Fey says, “ I want to go to there.” Malbec infused bread sounds delicious. Good review Rebecca.

The lobby really sold me on the hotel, as well as my room! Given I hadn’t traveled internationally for a few years prior to that, I’m glad I got to treat myself. 😊

380USD? whew! BUT – you can’t argue with those views, can you?

Honestly, given how hotel prices here in the US equal or cost more than that (and without the same stunning views), I think it’s not a bad bargain!

The views are stunning and so is the hotel itself, Rebecca. When I travel, I don’t just pay for a nice room, I pay to have experiences that leave lasting memories, therefore I don’t mind splurging here and there. Because, as we all know, nothing can ruin a trip faster than arriving at your hotel to find it’s located in a sketchy ‘hood, falling apart, or realizing that “garden view” means you’ll be looking at the parking garage for the next three days. Thanks for sharing and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

This looks awesome. We will be in Ushuaia in March, 2024 for a repositioning cruise we are doing. We will add this for a pre departure list. Thank you!
