June marks an entire month of Pride celebration for the LGBTQ community in the US. It is a time to commemorate the Stonewall Riots which took place on June 28th, 1969. Police conducted raids on gay bars in New York City, in which LGBTQ members fought back for, literally, their “pride” of their sexuality. The country has come a long way since then, with legislation to legalize same-sex marriage and, overall, to increase acceptance of the LGBTQ community.
I have rarely mentioned my views (let alone my sexuality) on LGBTQ rights on this blog. This is because this isn’t the place to discuss it, as it’s a travel blog, as well as the fact that it’s really none of people’s business to know all of my personal life. However, I do want to share glimpses of rainbow-themed shots I’ve taken on my travel, in honor of this important month for a community that’s near-and-dear to me. The rainbow is a representation of the LGBTQ community’s diversity, and it makes for a powerful statement on just far we’ve come in the past half-century in advocating for equality and acceptance in society. We’re far from being perfect, but here’s to improving little-by-little as the years go on.
10 Pride Photos from Around the World
1. Marbella, Spain
2. Cologne, Germany
3. Sacred Valley of the Incas, Peru
4. Santiago, Chile
5. Portland, Oregon, USA
6. Reykjavik, Iceland
7. Paris, France
8. Madrid, Spain
9. Los Angeles, California, USA
10. Lyon, France (my first Pride Parade to date!)
Overall, Pride Month is all about love. Not just for the person (or people) you love romantically, but also love and acceptance for those in the LGBTQ community. We are all human with the same ability to feel this powerful force of attraction to another human, regardless of sex or gender.
Love is love. Love wins. And everything in between. Have a wonderful Pride Month, folks.

Happy Pride month, Rebecca, as they say – love is love! I like your little collection of photos, especially the one from Reykjavik, so creative. Are there many events and activities planned in LA to support and celebrate the community? Also – I was so excited to find out that the L-Word Generation Q Season 2 is set to be released in August this year. I would love to see Sarah Shahi aka Carmen to make an appearance, but from what it looks like, it’s not going to happen. Cheers and have a nice day 🙂 Aiva xxx

There are multiple Pride Parades jn LA, including Long Beach and West Hollywood (at least, pre-COVID). LA has a massive LGBTQ community and there’s always something going on every weekend in public spaces (e.g. parks, bars, etc). I heard that The L Word is returning, and although I’ve only watched the first season of the original series, I’d be keen on checking out the reboot! Thanks for stopping by, Aiva. 😊

Happy Pride Month, Rebecca! The San Francisco Pride Parade is cancelled again this year, but to celebrate San Francisco and LGBTQ+ communities together, there will be other events, like the first-ever Pride Movie Night at Oracle Park! Your photographs are beautiful. I like the one of the steps in Paris. Thank you for sharing!

That’s awesome to hear! As San Francisco is such a notable LGBTQ hub for the West Coast (let alone the country), I’m glad that the city is continuing the celebrations, even if it’s a modified version. Hope you enjoy yourself this month (and stay safe)!

Loved this collection of pride photos around the world. Agreed, we have come far in respecting each other’s sexuality, gender and identities. We have a long way to go but your photos show quite a few of us are accepting one another as we are – and it’s time to celebrate that. I think my favourite photo in this collection has to be the last one where everyone is having a good time with each other.

Couldn’t have said it better, Mabel! It’s incredible just how far we’ve come in terms of equality and acceptance for the LGBTQ community, and here’s hoping that the world continues to move forward in improving it all the more. Lyon Pride (the last photo) was my first Pride event, and it truly was a wonderful experience. I plan to go to more in the future, should it permit! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
