About two months ago, Chocoviv from her eponymous blog nominated me for The Sunshine Blogger Award. My memory is fuzzy, as I believe that we first met and followed each other on Instagram before I discovered her blog; since then, I’ve been a fan, as I enjoy seeing her posts on food, travel…and more food! Thank you, Chocoviv, for the nomination– I’m honored!
This is the fourth nomination I’ve received for The Sunshine Blogger Award, but I am still flattered to be chosen for it. Here are the rules for the award:
Rules:
- Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
- Answer the 11 questions asked by the person who nominated you.
- Nominate 11 people and ask them 11 questions.
- Notify the nominees by commenting on one of their posts.
- List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award image in your post.
Questions:
1. What is your favorite book genre?
I grew up reading young adult (YA) fiction, and despite being an adult now, I still thoroughly enjoy delving into these books to this day. Besides being easy to read and pass the time with, many YA novels I’ve read contain a lot of depth on themes of love, loss of innocence, life lessons… It’s something that many of us can relate to, as we’re constantly figuring things out in life– in childhood and beyond.
2. Who is your favorite childhood author?
My favorite of all time is Chris Crutcher, an American novelist and child/family therapist. He writes YA novels, and he writes in such a compelling style that I’m envious of. His prose is sharp and sarcastic; if you don’t read carefully enough, you’ll miss the quip or remark! Many of his novels focus on high-school athletes, but instead of being the stereotypical “dumb jock,” he gives them depth in their character, and they’re really smart and entertaining to read about. Crutcher also grapples with intense themes, including abortion, homosexuality, and mental health, which is really admirable. If you haven’t read Stotan! or Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, I highly recommend you check them out.
3. Do you like to do art?
I’m not much of an illustrator or painter, but I do love to make origami. I’ve been making them since I was ten years old, and I often make them as gifts to family and friends. It’s very therapeutic, and giving them away makes me feel happy, as if I’m making another person happy with a little special something to brighten their day.
4. Stories or poetry?
If you were to ask me this question just a couple of years ago, I would’ve chosen poetry– no doubt. However, my opinion has changed slightly since then, as I’ve come across some incredible stories and prose out there, whether in articles or blogs I’ve stumbled upon. So that said, I’d say that it’s a tie now, albeit with a slight penchant for stories. But of course, that might change in a year or two!
5. If you could have any super power, what would it be?
The ability to teleport anywhere (and whenever). No more hassle of driving or taking flights to places when I travel!
6. What color would you paint your favorite room in the house?
My favorite room in the house is my bedroom, and it’s already in one of my favorite colors: a light, almost-periwinkle blue. Green is actually my favorite color, but it’s the soft periwinkle of blue that is soothing to the senses. I read somewhere that blue is a calming color, and I completely agree: I feel right at home (pun intended) and at peace when I’m in my bedroom, and I do not regret my choice to paint it blue.
7. Vegetables or fruits?
Both are good (and necessary for a balanced diet), but I’ll go with fruit. They’re sweet and easy to eat, i.e. no need to cook them. One of my absolute-favorite foods are mangos, which happen to be a fruit; I could eat them anytime, any day!
8. What are you planning to do for the New Year?
Well, New Year has already passed, but it turned out to be the way that I’d anticipated: intimate and quiet, as I was at home with family. I’m not one to do anything grand for the new year, so the way I “celebrated” it was just the right thing for me to do.
9. Your ideal breakfast?
Good question. On the Western end, it would need to involve a lot of savory dishes, including hash browns, Eggs Benedict, and breakfast burritos with chorizo inside. As for the Eastern end, I would crave for some flaky turnip pastries, along with dim sum. That, and plenty of bottomless mimosas to wash it all down…strange combination of food and drink, I know, but they’re all of my favorite breakfast dishes!
10. Favorite self-care activity?
Watching YouTube and/or reading blogs or Reddit with a few glasses of wine at hand. Simple, but pleasurable!
11. Favorite blog post from your blog from last month?
My recap of the past year, titled “2020: My Year in Review.” The post is one which I write every year, but this one was especially reflective of the experiences I encountered (particularly during the pandemic) and the lessons I learned along the way.
My nominees:
…and anyone who wishes to partake, honestly.
My questions:
1. What were your resolutions for 2021, and have you succeeded in them yet?
2. Where do you hope to visit this year, given that the pandemic subsides?
3. How do you take your coffee (if at all)?
4. Tell us one thing about your home country that many outsiders don’t know about.
5. Did you imagine that you’d be in the place you’re currently in (e.g. career, relationships, fulfillment) five years ago? Why or why not?
6. Which languages can you speak?
7. Which languages would you like to learn?
8. Do you prefer a savory or sweet breakfast? Why?
9. Name one cultural shock you’ve experienced while traveling.
10. Beach, desert, or forest? Why?
11. What makes you happy in life?
Thanks for reading, folks! Have a wonderful day. π

Thank you! Honestly mangos and Eggs Benedict would make a great breakfast meal, as it’s both sweet and savory. Teleportation needs to exist now; it would make life a lot more convenient, that’s for sure!

Aw, thanks for the kind nomination Rebecca! I’m on a blog hiatus so I may not be making an award post. Hope that’s okay? π
I got to learn more about you especially the art of origami. It’s exciting and I like when they’re used in children’s books.
Thanks again and I hope you have an enjoyable day.

Periwinkle is such a calming color; it’s perfect for a room! If you ever try a Taiwanese breakfast, then be sure to get turnip pastries. They’re like a savory croissant, but loaded with dense turnip paste! Super good. π
