(inspired by my hometown, Los Angeles)

LACMA 3 8-21-15

LA Nights

Sunsets on the boulevard,
riding down the stretch
to what seems like eternity
on these La Cienega nights
next to you,

Head rested on my shoulder,
you count the stops along Wilshire mile,
catch a glimpse of urban light
past satellites and dust particles from BMWs
that cruise to infinity down Beverly Drive
toward streets paved by stars
— how brightly they shine!

Now, the midnight avenue
has never looked so bright
as we look for signs in the distance
between Hollywood and Venice
of our existence here tonight:

Are we blessed
to be living as angels?
